Let’s be real. Booking a photographer for your family can be STRESSFUL, but it doesn’t have to be. Regardless the season of life you are in, it’s important to find someone who can capture those moments for you.

No. 1:
Can you imagine your family in those images of the photographer’s work?
The best way to start off on the right foot, is finding a photographer who has the style you want. Whether that is the way they capture moments, their editing style, etc.
Find a photographer who checks off that box. You want to find a photographer who you (and your family!) can connect with and feel comfortable around.
No. 2:
How well do they work with kids?
All parents want to do is protect their kiddos, and working with a photographer should take the same precautions! Being in front of a camera, trying not to worry about making sure everyone’s clothes are right, hair isn’t blowing around everywhere, and everything in-between can be exhausting.
That’s why it’s best to see what kind of experience the photographer has with children! Although, we photographers have our own little tricks to get a toddler to laugh or run after their sibling, it really depends on each artist.
I recommend just reaching out to the photographer. After you found the right style, make sure they have experience with children, and are able to bring your session comfort!
No. 3:
Kids will be kids!
I think we all want to have the perfect photoshoot: nothing goes wrong, the kids do exactly what they are told, no one spills anything on their clothes, and BOOM. It’s done.
As much as that sounds so peaceful and great, don’t let it make you lose sleep at night. Being a family photographer, I WANT to capture those in between moments. I love when kids are themselves. Being goofy, joking around, chasing after their older sibling, even making you chase them down! It’s genuine. That why I love photographing family and children especially. Kids will be kids! Let them. Celebrate this time in your life, because it some how manages to fly by so fast.
A little tip, bring snacks, bring their favorite toy(s), or their blanket or stuffed animal. Heck I’ve even had a toddler want his shirt off because he was too hot! The family embraced it, and it made for some really cute photos. Now they can look back on that day and just laugh and think about him at that age.
Family photos are meant to be FUN! Don’t let it hold you back or overwhelm you. The photos will become more genuine and detailed to your lives because of your unique little humans.
I hope this helped give you a little clarity and gave you guidance when searching for your photographer!
